Cross-Layer Rate Optimization in Wired-cum-Wireless Networks

چکیده
In this paper, we address the end-to-end rate optimization problem in a wired-cum-wireless network, where CSMA/CA based wireless LANs extend a wired backbone and provide access to mobile users. The objective is to achieve proportional fairness amongst the end-to-end sessions in the network. Since the network contains wireless links whose attainable throughput is ‘elastic’ and is a non-convex and non-separable function of transmission rates of the neighboring links, the problem requires joint optimization at both the transport layer and the link layer. A dual-based algorithm is proposed in this paper to solve the rate optimization problem. It is implemented in the distributed manner, and works at the link layer to adjust transmission rates for the wireless links in the basic service sets, and at the transport layer to adjust session rates. We prove rigorously that the proposed algorithm converges to the globally optimum points. Simulation results are provided to support our conclusions.

متن کاملEnd-to-end QoS framework for heterogeneous wired-cum-wireless networks
With information access becoming more and more ubiquitous, there is a need for providing QoS support for communication that spans wired and wireless networks. For the wired side, RSVP/SBM has been widely accepted as a flow reservation scheme in IEEE 802 style LANs. Thus, it would be desirable to investigate the integration of RSVP and a flow reservation scheme in wireless LANs, as an end-to-end...

متن کاملA Cross-Layer Packet Loss Identification Scheme to Improve TCP Veno Performance
In wired-cum-wireless networks, one of the main design challenges for TCP is to accurately distinguish congestion losses from random losses caused due to channel noise and interference. TCP Veno has been widely deployed in wireless networks to address this challenge. TCP Veno has been demonstrated to show better performance than TCP Reno in wired-cum-wireless environments. However, TCP Veno doe...
متن کاملEnhancement of Tcp Performance with the Help of Snoop Protocol in Wired Cum Wireless Network
The TCP networks have been the only communication for wired media that followed IEEE 802.3 networks. This paper attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of this Link Layer approach i.e. Snoop protocol that improving throughput of TCP in wireless networks. It first explains the role of Snoop protocol that overcomes the limitations of TCP protocols in wireless media. We investigated the appli...
